Juan Gabriel’s Return to Theater for Hispanic Heritage month

As August nears its end, many are gearing up to celebrate Hispanic Heritage month. While many celebrations are being planned, one to look forward to is the return of Juan Gabriel’s concert documentary, Mi Primer Bellas Artes that will be rereleased September 15th. This documentary follows Gabriel’s first performance at Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City back in the 90s and will return to theaters on the 15th, as a way to to celebrate Mexican Independence Day and to commemorate his passing as it's been 10 years since the world has lost this amazing and influential artist. 

This reissue of the famous documentary has been restored to have better looking footage, as well as sound for fans to enjoy. However, this isn’t the only treat fans, both lifelong and new, will get to enjoy. It’s been reported that this new edition will also feature an alternative opening scene with never-before-seen-footage of Juan Gabriel rehearsing, which was taken from his personal collection. 

Mexican movie director and producer, Maria Jose Cuevas said to Fathom Entertainment, “Preserving Juan Gabriel’s legacy means ensuring that new generations can experience the moments that defined him.” She continues her thought by adding, “His 1990 Bellas Artes concert was not only a milestone in his career, but a landmark moment in Mexican and Hispanic music and culture. Bringing it back to the screens for the first time is a way of keeping that history alive.” 

Juan Gabriel had a legendary career which spanned 4 decades and was cross-generational, as he often explored many genres with his music. He sold over 100 million records and was a six-time Grammy nominee. His performance at Palacio de Bellas Artes is one that remains iconic and memorable in the Mexican zeitgeist, as it is seen as a combination of pride, heritage and culture.
